Ever wonder who that face behind the music is? We did to. That's why we've set out to uncover the mystery of the Disc Jockey's that you dance to nightly. This week we've caught:

DJ Bash

From: Puerto Rico

What is the significance of your name and how did you get it?

Well, it really signifies ‘party’ and also ‘hard’ at the same time, but if you put them together is ‘Party Hard’ which was my approach when I thought about the name.  I actually got the ‘DJ Bash’ name while I was creating my first email account, I wanted something different and unique but at the same time related to music or sound, so I created ‘bashnoise’ for my email and then cut it in half to just use ‘Bash’  Got it?  Well, that’s the short version, ha ha.

What kind of music do you like to play the most?

Hmmm, I think Dance music has always been my real favorite, anything such as House, Techno, Trance and Electronic music in general because is so full of energy.  On the other hand, I really like to DJ a variety of music when I do my sets, it can range from Hip Hop and Top 40 to Reggaeton and many tropical and international rhythms, it all depends on the crowd and venue.

What made you interesting in DJ-ing?

Honestly, I was just impressed in the art of how two or more songs can be mixed together continuously creating an amazing synergy.  I remember just watching and listening to the DJs in the town I grew up, they were so smooth you could hardly even notice when the song changed.  That and my natural love for music is what made me become a DJ.

How long have you been a DJ?

20 fantastic years now.  I can’t believe it’s been that long, almost makes me feel old, ha ha.

Where are your favorite venues to spin at?

Club SKYE is my favorite, but I also enjoy playing at Tijuana Iguana and even at the PUMA store in International Plaza.

Outside of work, do you ever go out to clubs?

Not as much as I used to, but I always manage to go out at least once a week to different places.  I enjoy being around people and socializing, it keeps me in balance. I also like to be the spectator on the dancefloor to get a feel for what songs are really good to dance to and what songs are not, this make me a better DJ.

Do you take music requests?

Sometimes, it really depends if the song requested fits my set or not.   I will not play a repeated song ever, then again, with a good tip and some patience I might change my mind.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen while you were working?

Hmmm, define crazy?  Ha ha...No Comment.

What’s been your biggest gig so far?

There have been many big gigs but the most recent one was probably when I opened the show for Aventura at Club Underground, there were 2,000 people in there and it was so hot, but the crowd was amazing, I saw people dancing everywhere, it was crazy.

When you are up there, do you have a playlist or do you read the crowd?

No playlist, I love improvising.  I read the crowd also but I like to play a lot of new songs that most people never heard, even if they don’t dance to it right away, because I think that if all DJs play the same songs all the time then we will never have newer classics, think about it, there are Leaders and there are followers, I like to lead.  I’m experimental and don’t like to be predictable, that’s the bottom line.

Best DJ experience?

I had so many is really hard to just pick one.  I mean, I share the stage and opened shows for many artists and world famous DJs, is just too many to mention really, they were all great experiences.  Probably touring in the U.K. falls under one of the top ones though, I loved DJing there.

Do you prefer playing at clubs or bigger events?

I prefer bigger events because they are normally more unique and complex, but I really enjoy doing clubs too because you can reach a more diverse and larger crowd at the long run.

With so much music now a days have you gone to Serato or do you still carry the old fashion milk crates?

Serato all the way baby.  The speed and versatility you can gain by using this product is unparallel.  Did I mention I’m a technological freak too?

What DJs do you look up to?

Eddie Halliwell, DJ AM, and very few others.

Are you associated with or are you part of any groups in the music industry?

Nope.

Would you or do you work with any radio station in the Tampa Bay area?

I would love the opportunity, if the offer is right.  I have worked in events with the radio stations but not working directly for them.

What are your future plans?

I will continue to DJ while I have the energy and maybe will be producing some tracks in the future.  I will always try to find ways to influence people with music and bring good old times to the dancefloors across the globe.

Where can we find you?

At Club SKYE on Saturday nights and at Tijuana Iguana on Tuesday nights.  You can also stop by and see me at the PUMA store in the International Plaza from 4-8pm every Saturday.

What is your website or Myspace?

www. bashnoise. com or  www.myspace.com/bashnoise
