The scene: New World Brewery, just off the main drag in CentroYbor, draws quite a diverse audience. The crowd depends largely on the live act that is playing each night, and on nights when there isn’t a band, customers’ ages range from 21 to 51. New World Brewery is 21 and up only, so this is a safe bet if you’re looking to escape the typical ditsy 16 to 18-year-olds you often see in Ybor. At first glance it looks like it might be a dive, but the staff has an upbeat attitude and keeps the venue in good shape. There is plenty of seating both inside and out, and a jukebox to keep you entertained when the music’s not live.

The décor: NWB has your typical bar décor; random posters, interesting props, and signs advertising the beer and liquor brands they carry. The inside seating area is large. The outside houses the stage (under an awning) with a small standing-room-only space in front of it, and a big area with tables and chairs for people who want to enjoy their drink under the stars. The whole bar feels very relaxed and casual.

The food: You wouldn’t think that a bar would have some of the best pizza in Ybor, but New World Brewery is known for its tasty pies. The stone-seared, thin-crust pizzas come with your choice of sauce – tomato, olive oil white sauce, or black bean sauce. There are 15 options to choose from, but if none of the selections (which include everything from Greek infusions to buffalo chicken) appeal to you, you can make your own pizza by choosing your sauce and your favorites of their 16 toppings. Chips, snacks, and salad are also available.

The drinks: Although New World Brewery is not technically a brewery, they have one of the biggest selections of beers in Ybor. Featuring pale ales, ciders, and draught beers from all over the world, there are plenty of options for beer-drinkers. If you like something mild and slightly sweet, try Wittekerke. Looking for something a little heavier? Give Young's Oatmeal Stout, a draught from England, a try. And if you feel like tapping your inner 16-year-old, order a Smirnoff Ice. No matter your tastes, there is something for you at NWB. If you don’t know where to start, ask the bartenders to recommend something.

Insider tip: NWB is cash-only. Although there is an ATM inside, you might want to stop at your bank to avoid the $2.50 withdrawal fee.

The damage: At this bar, you can spend as much or as little as you want to. Beer prices range from $3 to $100 (that’s right; $100), with plenty of options in between. During the daily Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., enjoy $1 off American microbrews and non-Belgian drafts. Pizzas cost between $10 and $13, but if you want to add toppings expect to pay extra.

The bottom line: New World Brewery is a great eclectic spot, and a pleasant reprieve from the insanity that is CentroYbor. If you like beer, live music, and mingling, NWB is the place for you.
