When you have to make reservations to go to a particular club, you know it's not going to be your ordinary nightlife destination. Think valet parking, plush interior, and enough people wearing designer labels they could start their own store. The Kennedy touts itself as being an “intimate boutique lounge” and it just might be what South Tampa's fabulous need.

Décor: Leather couches line the walls, Oriental rugs cover the floor, and you will definitely see red—the color that is. The Kennedy's swanky theme consists of lots of red, funky artwork, and lots of special touches that make this lounge comfortable and classy. One thing that makes this nightclub stand apart from the rest, is that you won't leave with the smell of smoke in your hair. Smoking is only permitted outside.

Sounds: Every night provides trendy music played by Tampa's elite DJs. DJ Chang spins a mix of indie, electro, hip hop, and mashups with music videos on Wednesday nights. DJ Monk takes the decks on Thursday to provide a night of old school hip hop, alternative, and rock. Tampa's dance music fans might remember Monk from his previous stint in Rabbit in the Moon and from his residency at Whiskey Soho (RIP). DJ Gravity takes over Saturday nights playing a mix of hip hop, dance, and booty music. My partner in crime thought that Saturday's music selections were really “awesome” and strayed away from mainstream music and highlighted some underground stuff.

Bar: Mixed drinks can cost up to $8, while bottled beers run $4.

Dress code: The bouncers at the door may look intimidating, but I saw guys in tees and jeans walk right in. Their website brags that a dress code is strictly enforced, but as with most exclusive clubs, it's about who you know. If you do plan on heading out to The Kennedy, remember that you will be mingling with South Tampa's finest. Ladies love short dresses and high heels while the guys wear designer duds.

The Damage: Take advantage of The Kennedy's special offers while they exist. Hospitality employees receive free cover with proof of employment, and ladies can sign up to be a “Goddess” and receive line privileges and drink specials. If you live within five miles of The Kennedy, they promise to provide you with free cover and a promotional beverage.  As The Kennedy builds its clientèle (and finishes the final touches on the club), expect special events and promotions that should be taken advantage of while they are around.

The bottom line: Enjoy The Kennedy's intimacy while you can. A third part of this lounge is set to open in the fall, and once all the South Tampa partiers get a taste of the Kennedy, this place is sure to be packed on a regular basis.
