Went here May 2 - a Saturday afternoon - on a trip to Tampa. There was a guy with a guitar providing enjoyable music (he was good, and also good background noise). People were bringing their dogs, and these were some huge dogs - ones you could throw a saddle on. Made a nice atmosphere, and the PBR draft specials sure didn't hurt. Nice crowd, but still not crowded.
Report This ReviewYes, Ybor has it's share of nightclubs and typical, rowdy, tourist-seeking bars. Think Coyote Ugly or Green Iguana. Gaspar's Grotto, however, is a diamond among tarnished cubic zirconias on 7th Street. I happened along it one day when I heard some awesome blues coming out of the place on a Saturday night, which is one night when different live bands play. The drinks are relatively inexpensive and the crowd is hip, kinda punk funky, but mixed with older biker types and wannabe pirates. All folks are extremely friendly there and I always make new friends when I stop in. The establishment itself is clean - not dingy or dark. And if you're wild, you should try their special - a beer and a shot of whiskey (a PBR and a call brand of whiskey) for only 2 bucks before midnight. A few of those and the night seems to fly by. It did for me! Gaspar's Grotto is my new stomping grounds in Ybor. Kudos!
