Bloody Mary
Although not local, Bloody Mary is a childhood legend with millions of origins. The most known is simple: Stand in a pitch black room in front of a mirror and repeat “Bloody Mary” three times. It’s said that Mary shows herself in the mirror, often disfigured and, not surprisingly, covered in blood.
The thrill is in what would happen next; the folklore claims that Mary would kill the person who summons her in a very violent way, either by her own hands (her nails are supposedly sharp as knives) or an actual knife. Her premier is more specific than clowns or cemeteries, but the reaction is just as terrifying to those who have been terrified of Bloody Mary.
Legend claims that Mary’s tragic story has something to do with a child; some versions say her child was murdered, others say she was the one who killed the infant, and some stretch to say she was wrongly accused of the killing, thus ending her own life. Variations occur with each individual, but the terror of Mary lurks behind every mirror.
