You loved the movie, what about the DVD?
Find out as we examine the extras on this week's best movie DVDs...
"DRAG ME TO HELL"
Stars: Alison Lohman, Justin Long
Director: Sam Raimi ("The Evil Dead")
Format: DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "Isn't as inspired, or as gory, as the best of Evil Dead, but it's still good senseless fun."
Extras: DVD: Both the theatrical and unrated director's cut versions of the movie; "Production Video Diaries."
Blu-ray: DVD extras plus BD-Live functions that include scene sharing and "My Chat"; "Universal Ticker"; digital copy.
Worth watching: The digital copy will let you bring the unrated director's cut anywhere you'd like to get scared this Halloween.
Worth skipping: We've asked it before, and we'll ask it again: Why would you watch the edited version of a horror movie when you can watch an uncut version instead?
Worth adding: The original trailer, a making-of featurette, and a commentary by Raimi, Lohman and Long that discusses, among other things, why these extras aren't already on the DVD and Blu-ray.
Buy, rent or ignore: Rent.
"LAND OF THE LOST"
Stars: Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, Danny McBride
Director: Brad Silberling ("Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events")
Formats: DVD, Blu-ray
What we said: "Still boring, senseless and something no one should be proud of."
Extras: DVD: Commentary by Silbering; “A Day in the Life of a Big-Time Movie Star”; “Devil's Canyon Gift Shop Commercial and Tour.”
Blu-ray: DVD extras plus “Dr. Marshall's Food Diaries” with optional commentary by Silberling; “This is Not a Routine Expedition: Making 'Land of the Lost'” featurette; “Bradley, Sid and Marty: A Conversation with the Kroffts”; BD-Live "My Scenes Sharing."
Worth watching: The conversation with creators Sid and Marty Krofft is very insightful and entertaining, even if you liked the original show more than the movie.
Worth skipping: The solo commentary by Silbering leaves something to be desired…
Worth adding: …like participation from Ferrell, Friel and McBride.
Buy, rent or ignore: Rent.
"SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT"
Stars: Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, Saddam Hussein
Director: Trey Parker ("Team America: World Police")
Formats: Blu-ray
What we say: The Blu-ray debut of the hilarious TV show turned even funnier, expletive-laden film about a TV show being turned into an expletive-laden film that prompts decency-loving parents to declare war on Canada.
Extras: Commentary by co-creators/voice talent Parker and Matt Stone; trailers; “What Would Brian Boitano Do” music video; a trailer for “Drawn Together: The Movie.”
Worth watching: Despite what they might think (and frequently say in their commentary tracks), Parker and Stone's commentaries are funny and illuminating.
Worth skipping: “What Would Brian Boitano Do” works better in the movie than out of it.
Worth adding: Footage of Saddam Hussein, when he was being held by American forces, watching this movie. Which, yes, really happened.
Buy, rent or ignore: Buy.
