Definitely not the book. The entire Twilight series is amazing - the movie was only for fans who wanted a face to attach to their favorite character's names.

If you read the books carefully enough you would have noticed there was a big section of her constantly asking him questions and then another where he is constantly asking her questions. They only stated some of those in the book, the others were just inferred to create the feeling that they were getting know each other a lot during those periods of time. I wish the movie focused a bit more on those points. It would not make their love seem so superficial as you say it is and as much as the movie makes it out to be.

So then it's just like the book? Bella only loves Edward for his beauty, not once in the books is there anything even barely similar to, "So what were the 80's like? Did you ever meet anyone famous, like a president, or a civil rights activist that made history? Does being a vampire mean you never took part in politics? If you're over a hundred, why are you repeating high school? Surely you could be out in the Bermuda Triangle doing things humans could never could do and still survive?" At least, that's what I'D be asking him if I was the one dating a 107 year-old vampire. Does she care though? No of course not, because their "love" is superficial. Also, the fact that he reads minds is also just as boring and negative as it is in the books. "Everyone sucks" is the idea you get from Edward, "Waah, high school is like purgatory!" as well. I thought the movie would make it more interesting though, but I guess I was being too optimistic.
