The buzz: In the past two years, New Zealand’s premier musical comedy duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have enjoyed two seasons of their HBO series "Flight of the Conchords," and sold out performances across America. “I Told You I Was Freaky” is the pair’s second full-length studio album.

The verdict: From “We’re Both in Love With a Sexy Lady,” a dead-accurate parody of Usher and R. Kelly’s “Same Girl,” and the electro-dance anthem “Too Many Dicks (on the Dance Floor)” to the decidedly un-macho posturing of a rap called “Hurt Feelings” and jangly guitar-led ballads like “Rambling Through the Avenues of Time,” the Conchords manage to smartly skewer musical genres as well as elicit laughs with their lyrics. With most songs clocking in under three minutes, the pacing of the album is definitely funnier and punchier than the television series, too.

Did you know? He’s hard to spot, but McKenzie appears as an elf in two of the three “The Lord of the Rings” films.
