The Hold Steady The Hold Steady The Hold Steady

Brooklyn-based indie rock juggernauts The Hold Steady dazzled a capacity-filled Ritz in Ybor City, the entertainment district that plays a prominent role in four of the band's songs. Singer/songwriter and guitarist Craig Finn engaged the crowd with his tales of desperate people in desperate situations — and offered plenty of hand gestures to punctuate the alliteration-stuffed lyrics. The five-piece band created a sonic wave that splits the difference between Thin Lizzy and the E Street Band. Finn's vocals could have been higher in the mix — many words got lost behind the guitars and keyboard — but overall is pretty much a fantastic rock show. Fittingly, the performance closed with "Killer Parties," the band's most famous song to name check Ybor City.
