Scarlett Johansson
Main claim to fame: Graduating from indie film crush in such films as “Ghost World” and “Lost in Translation” to one of Hollywood’s hottest blonde bombshells.
Indie credentials: For her debut album, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” Johannson opted to do an album of Tom Waits covers, and managed to enlist TV on the Radio’s sonic architect Dave Sitek to produce. She also got David Bowie to sing a few backup vocals, and members of TVOTR, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Celebration to lay down the music. Later this year, she’s releasing an album of duets with singer-songwriter Pete Yorn, called “Break Up.”
What the critics are saying: “Johansson's voice is unremarkable and her pitch sometimes unsteady; she's a faintly goth Marilyn Monroe lost in a sonic fog.” – Rolling Stone
Random factoid: Johannson recorded a cover of Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye” for the soundtrack to the film “He’s Just Not That Into You,” in which she played an aspiring singer and yoga instructor.
