Desperately seeking celebrity

In 1985, Madonna was cast in her first major film role, opposite Rosanna Arquette in the fish-out-of-water comedy, "Desperately Seeking Susan." Madonna played the title character, a sassy New York party girl seemingly modeled on the singer's real-life persona. The film was a big hit, as was "Into the Groove," a song Madonna contributed to the soundtrack.
