If toasting a golden sunset with a glass of sangria sounds ideal, Ceviche’s rooftop happy hour is made for you. With a half-priced tapas menu and $3.00 sangrias, beer and wine, unwinding in the evening just got easier.
The Atmosphere: Ceviche is a Spanish themed restaurant, with locations from Tampa all the way to Sarasota. In keeping with Spanish tradition, there are stucco walls, high ceilings and tiled floors. At the Sarasota location, the rooftop is located on the fourth floor and accessible by elevator or stairway. Live music is played and a large bar is present.
The Happy Hour: Happy Hour specials are offered Tuesday through Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. During these hours, a variety of tapas are offered at half price. Drink specials include $3.00 wines, beers and sangrias. Tapas Tuesday is a weekly event, where thirty different tapas and a wide selection of drinks are offered at $4.00 each.
The Drinks: Red, White and Champagne based sangrias are the popular drinks here, as well as a selection of Spanish and Portuguese imported wines. If you’re looking for cocktails, Ceviche offers a number of mojitos, capirinhas and sidecars. The Spanish Sidecar is a surprisingly sweet combination of brandy and Gran Torres served in a snifter with a sugared rim. The Valencia Peach Sunset is a refreshing mixture of vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and grenadine.
The Menu: Over 100 tapas are offered on the menu, ranging from the namesake appetizer to paellas and traditional tortilla espanola. The beauty of tapas, of course, is the ability to sample a wide variety of small plates. If, however, you wish to try a larger entrée, order the Paella Valencia, a beautiful pan of saffron-flavored rice served with lobster, squid, scallops and shrimp, then spiced with chorizo sausage and bite sized pieces of chicken breast.
The Tortilla Espanola is a tapas dish that is a thick omelet stuffed with sautéed potatoes and served with a zesty mayonnaise flavored with roasted peppers and a variety of spices.
The Ceviche de la Casa is a variety of seafood, including fresh fish, scallops and squid, marinated in freshly squeezed lime juice and served with tomatoes, onions, peppers and cilantro. All of the dishes pair well with a glass of wine or cold and fruity sangria.
The Bottom Line: Dining al fresco with live music, great cocktails and wonderfully flavored food seems to be the reason locals on the Gulf Coast flock to Ceviche. This Florida based restaurant chain has authentically captured the spirit of Spain and its tapas lifestyle to the benefit of all of us.
