Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)

A tradition that began in 1905 continues with the Columbia Restaurant, Sarasota's oldest dining establishment. Brought to St. Armands Circle in 1959, the Columbia has a history of excellence, winning awards of distinction for their Cuban/Spanish cuisine and exceptional service.

If you're not sure what to order (and there is much to choose from), consider the La Completa Cubana combination platter (a feast made of pork, boliche, empanada de picadillo, platanos, yuca, black beans and yellow rice), or one of their famous paellas, seafood, poultry or steak entrees, along with a bottle of Don Caesar (private label) crianza.

If you have time, stop into the gift shop next door for spices, novelties, or their own family cookbook. Gift shop is also available online.
