Cheap Eats: Cupcake CUPCAKES!

It sounds like some place that only exists in a food lovers’ fantasy – a restaurant that only serves cupcakes.

Cupcakes aren’t a new break-through food product…after all they have been around since the beginning of time. What’s new however, is the ability to capture the true beauty of cupcakes and deliver them in an exceptional, sweet experience.

A new cupcake boutique, Cupcake CUPCAKES! just opened a few months ago in Westchase off of Linebaugh Ave. Itching for some sweet satisfaction I stopped by the boutique this past weekend, what I found was sweeter than I ever imagined.

The spot: Located in a delightful plaza, Cupcake CUPCAKES! is decorated like a stylish, contemporary boutique with elegant tables, sophisticated lighting and a hip black and white theme throughout the shop.  

At the center, is a display counter with a variety of cupcakes in a glass case tempting you to try them. After looking over a menu I decided that one simply wouldn’t be enough….so I ordered 4. 

What I tasted:

·         Peanut Butter Shocker: This one truly is a little bite sized, peanut butter dream. Chocolate cake with thick peanut butter frosting. It tastes like a giant peanut butter cup. (I could have just ate the frosting)

·         Cookies Are Creamy: Imagine Oreos, frosting and cake mixed together. Just the thought of it is satisfying. With cookies baked into the cake and then added to the creamy frosting, this treat is better than a real Oreo itself (pictured above).

·         Vanillalicious: It’s traditional and baked just right. Vanilla cake with a towering serving of vanilla frosting. If you like the classics, this one is for you.

·         Strawberry Shortcake: If you like strawberry overload then you will love this. Personally I found the strawberry overwhelming – sometimes fruit doesn’t always go best with really sweet treats.

 After placing your order you sit down at one of the black, sophisticated table and the employee serves you the cupcakes on real glassware with a fork and napkin…..this is elegance.

Final Thoughts: I never dreamed I would visit a restaurant that just served cupcakes – it does seem rather odd doesn’t it? But these treats, although priced a $2.50 a piece are definitely worthwhile. It’s likely that you won’t need 4 like I did, so next time you’re in the Westchase area swing by Cupcake CUPCAKES! The atmosphere, service and overall taste makes this place perfect for a  nice dessert after dinner or a little afternoon pick me up!
