Hours:
Tuesday to Friday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Down Low:  Pinky’s is a breakfast/brunch/lunch spot in south Tampa and offers a succinct menu of favorites in a cozy atmosphere.  In fact – they’re only open for breakfast or lunch so don’t get there later than 2 pm (or on Mondays – their designated day of rest).

The Digs:
Pinky’s is in bed with Cappy’s (they share the same owner), the well-loved neighborhood pizza place across the street.  It’s a good thing, too, because that’s the only parking is available for Pinky’s patrons.  Each restaurant shares the same simple, no frills approach and friendly delivery.

Upon walking through Pinky’s double doors, you’ll find a coffee bar on the left and worn in, mismatched tables and chairs along the other side.  What the place lacks in space it makes up for with character.

The Delivery:  There are a handful of servers, bustling around and attending to everyone with warmth and ease.  The atmosphere is relaxed but the food arrives in no time – hot, fresh and delicious.

The Dish:
My guest and I started out with a couple of iced drinks.  Most notably, my iced Café Americano ($3.25) was refreshing and strong - woke me up in no time.

Not wanting to miss out on each other’s choices, we shared the love all around with the following (all came with strong recommendations from our server):

Blackstone Benedict ($7.25): a nice twist on the traditional poached egg/hollandaise/ham combo, Pinky’s version of eggs benedict is a poached egg, fresh hollandaise sauce, tomato, spinach and bacon on a warm English muffin - served with fresh fruit and rosemary home fries.

Oatmeal Pancakes ($6.50): heartier than regular ol’ buttermilk pancakes and mmmm, so yummy (and served with a side of fresh fruit).

Cheese and Bacon Cracked Hominy Grits ($2.50): creamy, buttery, hearty grits seasoned with salt and pepper then sprinkled with cheddar cheese and crispy bacon crumbles.  Had to take the leftovers home – by the time we dug into this plate, we knew we’d regret it if we finished it.

The Damage: $21 - not too bad for a pig out.

The Deduction:
Pinky’s is a great spot for a late breakfast (or an early one, if you’re into that) or lunch.  I didn’t get a chance to try the sandwiches, salads or frittatas.  Guess that means I’ll have to go back again and again until I’ve exhausted the menu choices.
