If there's a golden rule every restaurant should live by, it's never keep your guests waiting. This rule has absolutely no flexibility during breakfast hours. After all, people aren't known for their patience, particularly on an empty stomach. Once patrons roll out of bed, dress, then travel to an establishment, they arrive with heavy expectations. They want to be seated immediately, have their drinks arrive quickly and breakfast platters served piping hot. For twenty-five years, The Broken Egg has met and exceeded such expectations, one plate at a time. While there are many reasons to enjoy The Broken Egg, reliability has to be among the top. This reliability has become an integral part of the Sarasota scene, giving locals that essential morning boost needed to complete the day.
The Atmosphere: Casual indoor and outdoor dining is offered. On the patio, comfortable wicker furniture under a large awning welcomes guests. Inside, the café walls are decorated gallery style, with works featuring local artists. Names of the artists and pieces, as well as selling price, are prominently displayed.
The Food: Although The Broken Egg offers a variety of menu items for lunch and dinner, it's their breakfast foods that have made them so popular. The Sampler ($7.99) is a fun interpretation of morning foods as a large pancake is turned into a smiley-face from bacon, eggs, and a scoop of their signature Awesome Hashbrowns, a delicious combination of shredded potatoes, cheese and sour cream. The Broken Eggwich ($7.59) is two scrambled eggs with slices of ham and cheese on a buttery croissant and a side of fresh fruit. The French Toast Sampler ($6.49) is a creative and delightful dish, featuring three distinctive breads: banana-nut, pumpkin and cinnamon swirl. Each slice is lightly dipped in batter, pan-fried then served with whipped cream and syrup. Each dish was well prepared, delicious, and even fun!
The Bakery: The Broken Egg maybe one of the last restaurant establishments to offer an in-house bakery. Handmade cakes, pies, cookies and a variety of breakfast pastries are made daily. Items can be enjoyed while dining or ordered to go.
The Celebrity Endorsement: Former NBA coach and basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale is often spotted having breakfast at The Broken Egg. He's become such a regular that the restaurant sells a variety of Vitale memorabilia, ranging from autographed books and postcards to Dick Vitale bobble-head dolls.
The Bottom Line: For twenty-five years, The Broken Egg has been serving delicious foods in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The efficiency, reliability, and dependable service are one of the many reasons why guests continue to visit the restaurant, morning after morning.
