The building on the corner of Grand Boulevard and Nebraska Avenue in New Port Richey has had a storied history. Originally opened in 1926 as the Thomas Meighan Theatre, after the movie celebrity who spent his winters in town, the venue became a showcase for silent films and talking pictures until it closed in 1934, a victim of the Great Depression. Between 1938 and 1968, as ownership passed through a number of hands, the theater underwent modernizing updates and name changes (first The Vogue, and then The Cinema).
The renovated and remodeled Richey Suncoast Theatre has been operating as a live performance venue ever since its inaugural production of Fiddler on the Roof in 1972. There are six productions per year — popular New York City shows, including a musical or two, and the community classic, Pasco Christmas.
