Wonderfalls
If you like…”Pushing Daisies” (ABC)
There’s “brilliant but canceled” and then there’s “brilliant but never even given a shot.” It’s definitely the latter for Bryan Fuller’s post-“Dead Like Me”/pre-“Pushing Daisies” outing, “Wonderfalls.” A loose, modern retelling of Joan of Arc—here Joan is a sarcastic misanthrope named Jaye who receives messages from gift store tchotchkes—poor “Wonderfalls” got the axe a mere four episodes in. Luckily for us, all 13 of the episodes produced now live in one charming, satisfying and modestly priced collection.
Fuller’s unique vision, snappy dialogue and penchant for giving female leads masculine names (George, Jaye, Chuck) show up in everything he does. Incidentally, so do some of his stars. Adorable “Pushing Daisies” star Lee Pace was in “Wonderfalls” as well.
